Why People Move to West Columbia
- State Street and Meeting Street are booming with new restaurants and bars
- Riverwalk access connects to the Three Rivers Greenway
- Housing prices significantly lower than Columbia proper
- Minutes from the Columbia Metro Airport
- Growing arts community with galleries and events
What to Expect
West Columbia is in the middle of a reinvention. What was once seen as Columbia's quieter neighbor now has a restaurant scene that draws people across the river — State Street is packed on weekends. The riverfront is being developed with trails and parks. The housing stock is a mix of modest mid-century homes and newer infill construction. It's walkable in spots, car-dependent in others, and generally unpretentious and welcoming.
Neighborhoods Worth Knowing
The Meeting Street and State Street corridors are the hot spots — close to restaurants, breweries, and the river. Triangle City is an established residential area with affordable homes and a community feel. The area near the airport is more commercial but offers the lowest home prices. South of I-26, neighborhoods are quieter and more spread out with larger lots.
Cost of Living
This is where budget-conscious relocators find real value. A solid three-bedroom home on a quarter-acre lot can be had for under $200K. Restaurants and bars on State Street are reasonably priced compared to the Vista across the river. Lexington County property taxes keep annual costs down. Utilities are standard for the area.
